Visual Matrix Expands MOP Lost & Found Functionality to Help Hotels Connect Travelers with Misplaced Goods

March 20, 2025

Hotel housekeepers gain direct control over the lost & found process to expedite reuniting guests with their belongings.

Richardson, Texas, – Visual Matrix, a leading provider of advanced technology solutions for the hospitality industry, is enhancing its MOP housekeeping and maintenance software tool with new Lost & Found capabilities, allowing hoteliers and guests to keep track of misplaced items in real time.

Losing personal items can instantly ruin a guest’s trip regardless of their on property experience. Hoteliers are motivated to help travelers reconnect with lost belongings to improve their guests’ experience, but often, the process for reuniting with lost items is cumbersome.  Losing an item can be disappointing, but even worse is when guests are trying to find their item and cannot do so because of broken processes, which this lost and found feature helps with. Long stretches between the discovery of the lost item and its delivery to guests can lead to unnecessary anxiety on behalf of travelers, which is often associated with the hotel.

By using a modern Hotel Operating Platform like MOP, hotels can now take control of the lost and found process to satisfy guests who would typically have a negative experience. Hotels with access to the Visual Matrix MOP system can now answer questions about lost items in a timely manner, track their return to travelers and improve their service relationships with guests.

The updated MOP Lost & Found feature allows front of the house, housekeepers and maintenance staff members to keep a real-time log of recovered items. Housekeeping and maintenance team members can post found items and notes that front desk staff can quickly act upon. This real time information can be used to proactively contact the guest and relieve them of the stress of finding the item has been lost.

MOP also includes a streamlined “storage” tracking and update system designed to keep hotels informed of items held for long periods, or items that have failed to be sent to their respective owner. Logs are organized based on where the item was found on property and when it was located so staff can help quickly reach guests before they leave the hotel.

“We know that this enhancement will be great for guest satisfaction but the overarching problem this solves is correcting the disorganized lost and found process that many properties are experiencing,” said Sara Csende – MOP Product Owner at Visual Matrix. “Our newest system makes it easy for staff members to report a found item while completing a routine task so that it populates in their property’s lost & found log. Hotels using this system will see a boost in goodwill from guests, many of whom often give up on seeing their lost belongings, while providing a boost in productivity for staff. Using our system, hotels can not only reunite these guests with what they’ve left behind, but they can also provide frequent, accurate updates about the status of their item from beginning to end.”
